JACKSONVILLE, NC – New River All-American Speedway has postponed Saturday night’s New River Rumble due to the threat of rain.
Monday night’s race had been delayed more than two hours by rain, and Saturday’s forecast is once again calling for a greater than 60% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon hours. That, combined with fatigue that has set in with racers, fans, and track staff after the July 1 and July 3 races, has prompted the track to call off the race.
“We’ve been looking at the weather and hearing from fans and racers and believe that, even if we did get the race in, the turnout would be depressed by weather conditions,” track operator Anthony Goodyear said. “Several drivers were already going to miss Saturday’s race because they could not get their cars repaired in time from Monday’s race, and we have drivers coming from three hours away or more.”
New River All-American Speedway raced on Monday night in spite of thunderstorms that rolled in during the late-afternoon hours. However, that race did not go green until 9:24pm – ultimately resulting in racers being at the track until the overnight hours.
The Summer Classic on Saturday, July 15, features racing for Chargers, Super Trucks, Bombers, Champ Karts, Legends, Bandoleros, and U-CARs.
The make-up date for the New River Rumble will be announced in the coming days.
