JACKSONVILLE, NC – A last-minute decision resulted in Curtis Lanier competing in three consecutive races during Saturday night’s Armageddon Armory Clash at Goodyear All American Speedway – and the Beulaville driver made the most of it with three podium finishes, including a win.
Along with racing in a Mini Stock and a U-CAR, Lanier also filled in for Gary Rochelle, Jr. in a Street Stock, which raced in between the two four-cylinder races. In all, Lanier ended up racing 90 consecutive laps. Lanier’s tripleheader started with a runner-up finish to Travis Miller in the U-CAR feature, then he picked up a third-place finish in the Street Stock division behind Gary Ledbetter, Jr., and Kyle Lynch, who staged a thrilling duel for much of the 35-lap race.
He had saved his best for last, picking up the victory in the U-CAR division.
“Man, this is the best night ever,” Lanier said in victory lane. “Anybody that can get in three great racecars and come out here and finish first, second and third, it’s just a great night. I want to thank everybody that supports me, my family, my daddy (Joe) for backing me 100 percent, and my boys that spotted for me in both cars. It’s just a great night and I’m glad to be here.”
After completing 90 laps in three different cars, Lanier had the energy to celebrate in victory lane and the adrenaline to want to race more throughout the evening.
“I could do another 90 [laps],” Lanier said. “I could run all night. Best night ever. It was really challenging because, three different cars, three different sets of tires. It was challenging, but it was awesome.”
Lanier’s victory was his 10th feature race win in the Goodyear All American Speedway era at the 4/10-mile track in Jacksonville.
Phoenyx Kimball takes flight for Bandolero victory
Phoenyx Kimball picked up her eighth career Goodyear All American Speedway victory in the Bandolero race, leading wire-to-wire over her main INEX Outlaws East national championship rival Neal Dulin. Her win came after a crash at Wake County Speedway a week prior and a series of motor problems throughout the past couple of weeks.
“This win is really satisfying after having a really rough couple of weeks,” Kimball said in victory lane. “I just got 100 points over Neal and we’re tied for the national championship, so now I’m a little bit in the lead but, who knows what’s going to happen. I’d like to thank my family and sponsors.”
Kimball leads the Bandolero division standings at Goodyear All American Speedway and is also tied for the championship lead at Wake County Speedway.
The results from Saturday’s Late Model race are under review pending results of a protest, which was filed after the completion of the division’s second feature race.
