JACKSONVILLE, NC – While the ultimate goal is winning for Ohio native Tim Allensworth, Sunday’s Prelude to the Battle at Goodyear All American Speedway will also be a learning experience for the veteran racer.
Sunday’s 100-lap feature race will run under a Late Model Stock Car rules package, which is different from the Limited Late Model rules package Goodyear All American Speedway typically runs under. The same Late Model Stock package will be in effect for the $20,000-to-win Solid Rock Carriers Battle of the Stars on November 13 – and Allensworth’s goal this weekend is to learn how the car will drive with the four-barrel carburetor which will produce more horsepower at the 4/10-mile track.
“We want to get 100 laps under our belts with the four-barrel to get notes and see how the car reacts differently from our weekly Limited series that we race there,” Allensworth said. “This weekend’s more about adjusting to the different characteristics of the car with the higher entry speed and using more brakes than we normally do because we’ll have varying speeds at the end of the straightaway. It’s about getting the platform set, making sure the engine runs right with the new carb, make sure we’re competitive for the Battle of the Stars because we know it’s going to be a highly competitive field.”
While this weekend is about adjusting to the Late Model Stock Car rules package before the biggest race of the 2022 season, Allensworth has his sights set on victory lane.
“That’s always the goal every week that we show up,” Allensworth explained. “Everybody’s there to win and there’s only one winner. It would mean a lot to get back, especially in these next two races with the level of competition we’ll be competing against. We look forward to seeing how we’ll stack up against the big teams.”
Allenworth is accustomed to running up front and contending for wins, whether it’s at Goodyear All American Speedway, Southern National Motorsports Park, or in Open Wheel Modifieds in Ohio. His last win came in May 2021 in a race at Goodyear All American, then called Coastal Plains Raceway, and he’s hoping to snap that winless streak soon.
“We haven’t raced a lot, but we’re always competitive wherever we go,” Allensworth noted. “We run top-2 or top-3 and we’re tired of finishing second. Last year, we had the plan of racing for the title at Carteret and you know what happened there with us being suspended for one week. We kind of removed ourselves from the championship after that. After we left Carteret, we decided to have some fun at GAAS for the rest of the year and race when we could.”
While Allensworth has only competed once in a Limited Late Model at Goodyear All American Speedway this season, he has spent plenty of time behind the wheel, driving an Open Wheel Modified in Ohio. Earlier this year, he recorded a runner-up finish after starting 14th in an event in the Buckeye State.
“I haven’t raced a lot in North Carolina this year. I’ve run some open modified races in Ohio. We ran second in a 30-car field over the Fourth of July in an open modified. Even though I haven’t been racing locally, I have been racing elsewhere and trying to keep my skills up to par.”
Allensworth recorded a runner-up finish in his most recent Limited Late Model race at Goodyear All American Speedway back in September.
Sunday’s Prelude to the Battle will go green at 3:00pm, featuring racing for Late Model Stock Cars, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Bombers, Legends, Bandoleros, and Champ Karts. Tickets are available at the gate for $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12, and kids five (5) and under get in free.
