JACKSONVILLE, NC – Curtis Lanier and Trey Massengill each stormed to victory in last-lap passes during a thrilling night of racing at Goodyear All American Speedway.

Saturday night’s racing, which ended up carrying over into the early morning hours of Sunday after a lengthy delay for rain, kicked off with the Mini Stock division and the racing was worth the wait.  Beulaville’s Curtis Lanier and Jacksonville’s Travis Miller staged a thrilling battle for the win – with Lanier ultimately prevailing.

“Man, it was a great run,” Lanier said.  “I got into Travis coming off of four with about five laps to go.  He checked up for a lapped car and I got into him, then we got into another lapped car.  It was a great race and he had the stronger car.  It was a good run for us.”

At one point, Miller nearly spun off Lanier’s front bumper but was able to hold on and drive through it.  On the last lap of the race, Miller would retake the lead, but lost it when trying to pass a lapped car that squeezed him into the wall – allowing Lanier to drive by.  While Miller was able to run him back down, he would fall short by a margin of .041 seconds.

“God’s been so good to me that this was no sweat right here,” Miller said, taking his runner-up finish in stride.  “That was good hard racing.  The lapped car was a little different deal and whenever we have two different speeds of these cars, he probably had nowhere to go and I probably chose the wrong lane.  I’ll take the blame for this one.  But we were able to finish the race and the good Lord always blesses me with fast cars and good sponsors.  Thanks to the Goodyear for sticking this out and getting this race in and the fans who showed up.”

The Champ Kart feature also came down to a last-lap shootout between Dudley’s Trey Massengill and Snow Hill’s Aaron Layden.  Layden, who has picked up his first career win a week prior, had dominated the race, but Massengill saved his best for last with a slingshot move on the final lap to take the lead and the win.

“We won Super Stock at Tri-County and we came by here and demolished the champ buggies,” Massengill said in victory lane.  “I appreciate everybody.  My racing family racing is so important to me and y’all just support everything about it and I just appreciate everybody.”

The Atlantic Turfscapes Super Truck Series also delivered the action in the most entertaining Super Truck race to date at the track.  The first quarter of the race saw Denton’s Clint King and Reidsville’s Jamie York battle side-by-side for position with King ultimately prevailing.  However, the final quarter of the race saw a new challenger emerge in South Carolina driver Cody Kelley, who prevailed after a lengthy side-by-side battle with York.

The INEX Legends National Qualifier was won by Raleigh’s Carson Haislip over Concord’s Evan Garvey, while Virginia’s Brian Rundstrom, Jr. edged out Raleigh’s Phoenyx Kimball in a shootout.  Alliance’s Rusty Daniels won in Late Models, Stony Point’s Tyler Chapman scored his first career victory in Charger competition, and Hubert’s Eddie Humphrey inherited the win in Bomber after Angier’s Sammy Pacitti was disqualified for aftermarket springs.
