JACKSONVILLE, NC – Curtis Lanier kept up his winning ways at Goodyear All American Speedway on Saturday night while Rusty Daniels made a statement with a Late Model sweep.
Lanier battled with his father, Joe Lanier, throughout the duration of the U-CAR feature race. The two cars were evenly matched, leading to a perpetual battle to the end. The two swapped the lead several times between them, but it was the younger Lanier who went on to score the victory.
“That is the best race I’ve ever been in,” Lanier said in victory lane. “This is what we come to do, we come to put on a show. Good, clean racing with everybody and, man, it was just a great race. Great job by daddy and myself. It was the most exciting race I’ve ever been in. I want to thank the fans who come out, my family, my sponsors, and everybody who supports this team. Thank you for coming out.”
Joe Lanier was hoping to get back around his son in the closing laps and beat him on track for the first time – but he was satisfied with his runner-up effort and enjoyed the thrilling race he had a supporting actor credit in.
“I hadn’t won a race out here with him in it,” the elder Lanier said. “I wanted to beat him bad. I think he was playing with me a little bit, but I gave it all I had. If the fans didn’t enjoy that, then I don’t know what’s wrong with them. That was some good racing from where I was sitting.”
Eddie Humphrey and Brian Gooden, who ran in the Bomber race earlier, stepped up to run in the U-CAR feature and finished third and fourth respectively, while Dustin Jolly rounded out the top-five.
Rusty Daniels swept a pair of Late Model features in dominant fashion – leading every lap in the first race, then driving up to the lead in just five laps after a full-field invert in the second twin.
“Great car, great racetrack, great tires, great community, everything’s good,” Daniels said. “I just can’t thank everybody enough. We’ve been doing this for a long time. I worked every night on the week on this car. I take time away from my family sometimes to do this. Me and my wife do it. She bleeds the brakes with me. We do everything together. Changed motors this week by myself and I’m going to keep doing it as long as I can.”
Duane Walker was victorious in the Bomber feature while Michael O’Brien dominated the Charger race.
