Adam Fulford claims bounty in first Goodyear All American Speedway victory

JACKSONVILLE, NC – After being frustrated by Jody Measamer all season, Adam Fulford finally broke through to score his first career Super Truck win at Goodyear All American Speedway on Saturday night – claiming an extra $500 in the process.

Measamer had been undefeated entering Saturday night and increased his win streak to four when he won the first Super Truck feature on the evening.  Fulford, who had three runner-up finishes to Measamer, was frustrated after his fourth in the first race.  In the second race, however, Fulford started on the pole after an invert and was able to drive away from the field.

“I can promise you, he was not on everything he had, he was off a little evidently,” Fulford said.  “We made an adjustment and it worked perfect.  My hats off to them.  I was a little negative earlier but it was because I’m so tired of trying so hard and coming up short.  Those guys are class acts and professionals.  I want to dedicate this to my grandmother, who passed, and my best friend Terry Evans.  I drew number 35 on the tire pill, which was his number, so this one’s for him.”

Measamer’s winning streak ended at four as he fought for a second-place finish.  In the first Super Truck race, Sarah Cornett-Ching scored a career-best third-place finish while Jeremy Gerstner finished third in the second race.

While veteran Billy Hall scored the win in the Legends division for the second consecutive race, it was runner-up finisher Scotty Benford who stole the show with his best performance to date.  Benford showed speed all race and was reeling in the leader in the closing laps but coming up just short.

“Scotty B, he’s only been running Legends a couple years, already amazingly quick,” Hall said.  “He’s the future of Legend Cars.  I love to see young talent coming up like this and play the cat-and-mouse game.  I’ve been running these cars for 10 years and it’s nice to see young cats getting after it.  I look forward to many many more battles with this guy.”

Benford reflected on his best career effort to date after the race.

“Our car was very good but I feel like I could have asked for a little more out of it,” Benford said.  “Overall, just a good race.  We just need to regroup, work on things a little bit and get a first place.  Just got to practice, be consistent and we’re going to get there.”

In other divisions: Travis Miller picked up his second consecutive win in the Mini Stock division; Matt Broughton edged out Justin Thompson in a photofinish in Champ Kart competition; Joe Lanier picked up his first win of the year in U-CAR; and Trace Raynor was victorious in the Bomber class.

The next race at Goodyear All American Speedway will take place on Saturday, October 9th with twin Late Models, Chargers, Street Stocks, U-CARs/Bombers, Legends, and Champ Karts.
