JACKSONVILLE, NC – Chase Singletary came out on top in the most exhilarating race of the Solid Rock Carriers Battle of the Stars Prelims, making a last lap pass on Carson Haislip in the 25 lap Legends feature.
Singletary had run in second for most of the race when a late race caution set up a dash to the finish. The 14-year-old from Burgaw, North Carolina, was able to draw even and the two leaders battled side-by-side, swapping the lead and exchanging crossover moves lap after lap. On the final lap, Singletary used a little muscle to get past Haislip to clinch his third Legends win of the season at Goodyear All American Speedway.
“My heart was beating 1,000 beats per second,” Singletary said in an on-air interview with Racing America powered by Speed51.TV. “It was crazy. I thought I did good. [Haislip] obviously wasn’t feeling the same way, probably because he got second.”
As excited as Singletary was, Haislip was not.
“He absolutely just freaking sent me into the corner,” Haislip said. “The only way I would have passed him is the hook him and I’m too clean for that. I’m not going to drive through somebody to win at this one track. I’ve won many other places and I think, next year, I’ll win just as much.”
Singletary said the last lap contact was just racing.
“If you can’t take a couple bumps here and there, then you don’t need to be racing,” Singletary retorted. “Rubbing’s racing, that’s all it’s ever been. I feel like I did my part. He bumped me going into turns one and two and I bumped him back and came out on top with the lead.”
Singletary is now setting his sights on racing in Pro Late Models in the Carolina Pro Late Model Series as well as in a Super Truck part-time after a successful 2021 season which culminated with a division championship at nearby Carteret County Speedway and Saturday night’s big win.
The Legends division will race on Saturday, December 4th in the opening round of the Winter Heat Series, along with Mini Stocks, U-CARs, Bombers, Bandoleros and a Late Model non-winners race.
